  Ok here is my problem.........

  i just read some of the thread about keeping our kids away from jws and their teachings.......this is my situation and any helpful advice would be appreciated.......... i have a 14 year old son.

  his father and i have not been together since 1999, when i was disfellowshipped.

  we now share custody.

  I am in a similar situation as you although my children are younger. Although its temping to diss the religion, it could make the child very uncomfortable. Really you have to just teach him to keep an open mind, show him as you are an alternative (normal) life style to that one and always be there with good communication, in this way he can see it more from both sides. If an opportunity arises to explain anything, then be ready with facts and logic. Perhaps if the baptism thing rears its head, you can stress the things that JW's tend to avoid discussing, in other words the implications and so on from giving yourself to the WTS.

  What a fascinating discussion, and what a dilema for the GB, when their motive is more than dispensing truth to people. What authority do they really need to do that? But being human, it can only turn into a self admiring control power trip. I like the fact that to remove the doctrine/rules that drive people away will also undermine their power base. If they tighten their grip, the more that will slip through their fingers, if they relax that hand, people will walk knowing its easier to do so. I continue to watch the developments of the WTS, with interest.

  Met/spoken to two former Jw's I knew this week

  what a strange week, first someone who posts here turns out to be someone i knew from many years ago, and we end up speaking on the phone to catch up and share our experiences, and then last night i'm in the supermarket when someone says hello to me and when i turn to look its another person who used to attend my old congregation.

  his reason's for not going was the lack of love shown to him and the fact that questions he was asking were going unanswered - sound familier?

  First Date Etiquette

  so i am going on a blind first date this weekend?

  i havent done any dating really - well ever.

  i just end up with people for years and years by accidents of fate i guess.. what should i and shouldnt i do on a first date?

  free2think and cyber - bad children! I didnt want you to comment on bisexuality or dating - but the religious experience. ie describe my non saintly qualities so that I can convince this lady that I am not special and not some sort of feminine deity! LOL!

  i recently moved back to my home town after being away for several years and doing the "fade".

  i have family still in, so people heard that i was back in town.

  i got six invitations to the memorial and a couple of phone calls about the special talk.

  I think they keep up this pressure, as they see you as a danger to the flock. You can and have found out the real truth about them and the teachings which makes you highly dangerous. Is it possible your own family has initiated this 'help'? The only thing I think you can do is always try to avoid them, be busy, unabtainable and so on. If you meet some JW's in town, just make excuses and still agree with everything. Eventually they should let it go, but dont be surprised that some would disassociate you themselves because you've stopped attending - which to them says your weak and therefore, not worth associating with.

  Talking about it is the right answer, so thats one good thing. I know how it feels to do or say something in the heat of the moment, it really feels bad, especially when it was directed to your child - someone you love unconditionally. The fact is though, you cant take it back only make amends, in which it sounds like you have. So to learn to let it go is next. There were good reasons you got that heated and are human, make a mistake or two, it happens. The only thing that is wrong is when we dont learn from our mistakes. It's becomes a life lesson for you both, which is no bad thing. There is always some positive view of anything we do, however silly it was at the time.

  I can imagine your worry also with your home and work situation. But again try to find out all that is going on, tell your other half about your concerns. In the end as long as you and your family are healthy and can get by, thats all that matters.

  Felt the affect of a WTS policy

  i took my two children home today, and was about to step in when my ex says, 'i've got people here'.

  it turned out to be her sister (also a jw).

  normally i'm ok to go in, but not this time, if i ever go in and she happens to be there she doesnt say a word to me.
